an average house here is on a 3" trigger so I'll be getting atleast $250 for 28"......I'd tell him to f@ck off....I cater to doctors and such who HAVE to be out of their house BY 5-7AM and are willing to pay to keep that driveway clean.
So I get a call today from a "customer" after 28" inches fell. Um...you were only here for 10 minutes (actually we were there for more like 15) and I think paying you $40 for two visits for a total of $80 is out of line as it was light and fluffy. The drive is straight shot uphill ~50 yards. My response was first...'how long do you think it would've taken me or you to shovel?' his response was well that's out of the question to which I replied then it's out of the question I'll be back ever again and you can mail the check to my address. Hell...I had people throwing me cash left and right and even ended the day with a 12 pack of Blue Moon on top of the $40 the guy gave us for 10 minutes time. I should've known when I saw the "For Sale By Owner" sign in his front yard...
These people think since we spend $30+k on a truck and another $4k on a plow are gonna charge them $15? That's actually what he left on my machine, but I'm expecting the check. I wish the next storm wasn't coming Wednesday because if he stiffed me...there might be a nice pile left halfway up his drive.

J, no one is willing to pay more than what they think the job is worth, not even doctors and lawyers.
I do too, but all my doctors have an SUV with 4 wheel drive, don't yours? I can't guarantee that I can have them all cleared, but I can guarantee they can get back in. I remember about worrying about those types, but along with consistency, they have no problem. They just use that as an excuse to try and have you come there first. I have a route, it may change slightly, but for the most part doesn't. Anything more than 6 is pushed twice, if I can't get around fast enough (LOL) so if any SUV can't get out thru 6-8" they better call the engineers.
BTW...$250? How many linear feet? Once again I smell smoke....
So Jazzy...how'd you make out on these storms or are you still digging out?
I agree w/ Jazzy.. I do a limited # of resis... avg drive 100-1200 lft. get from $75-$125 w/ some walks... w/each storm 16+ inches, charged them all double - no complaints
For $40, I'd open their apron & beep my horn! Then they could pay me to finish the job.
your village just called.... seems they're missing their idiot!!
28 inches.......$40........Heck of a deal...
Seriously.....I'd call this guy today......go get the money......and ask him if he wants you to continue with future storms. With another snow coming...I'd pressure him to pay
Hey guys sorry....I average $150 a drive and we had 12-15" here......was out for over 24hrs!!! Supposed to get up to 6" more early this week!!!!
40 seems way to cheap. don't do many resi driveways but of the 1/2 dozen we do, all are 75 or more each per push and we plowed them 4X during the last storm. all clients are very happy and will pay their bills. for those that want to risk getting stuck or blowing up their tranny's trying to push 16" of cement like wet snow in one shot, go for it....but charge accordingly.
You were not his first victim I bet. Some folks make a living with their BS. You did the right thing Scraper.
Thanks Hay...and just to rectify my comment to Jaz....I was a little beat when I responded after your post...so yeah...I can see you getting $250 or so after 2-3 pushes....my bad. BTW...I got paid from that guy and cashed his check for cash as it is was from the same bank I use and didn't want to chance a cancelled check fee. Drove by his property today just for giggles and it's unplowed. Wait until he gets another 2' next week!
